Getting 10,000 steps a day can be good for your overall health, for burning calories, and helping you in your efforts to shed excess fat and manage your weight. Generally speaking, getting 10,000 steps a day equates to 500 calories burned, give or take.

If your goal is to reach 10,000 steps per day, but you’re struggling to achieve it, you’ll find that there are different and creative ways you can up your number of daily steps to hit the 10,000 mark.

Here are 10 easy ways to get 10,000 steps a day:

  1. Invest in a pedometer – The easiest way to track your steps is with a device that actually counts them for you. Tracking your steps in this way helps you to see what you’ve achieved throughout the day and can motivate you to be more active to reach your goal.
  2. Making walking a habit – Commit to walking every single day with the goal of walking at least once per day for 30 minutes. Remember, the faster you walk, the more calories you burn!
  3. Take the stairs – At your apartment, work, mall, doctor’s office, train station, etc. opt for the stairs instead of the elevator whenever possible.
  4. Walk up and down hills – If you live in a place with a lot of hills, walking up and down them is a lot more work than walking on a flat surface. You can enjoy the benefits of strengthened leg muscles over time and more calories burned!

  10. Set reminders – Program your phone or your fitness tracker to go off every 30 or 60 minutes to remind you to get up and move. Don’t sit down again until you’ve walked at least 250 steps!

Remember, while 10,000 steps may be your goal, it’s important to ease into it to prevent straining or injuring your body. Gradually increase your steps over time and eventually you’ll get there!
